Why do Indian women wear "BINDI" on their forehead?

Well many of us don't know the reason , why women in India wear BINDI ???
Does it signifies anything??? or just a tradition ? o.O

what does the word ‘bindi’ mean?

Like the various aspects of authentic Indian culture, the bindi carries with it a wealth of meaning. Bindi is derived from the sanskrit word 'bindu’, which means dot. Bindi is also known as ‘sindoor’, ’tilaka’, ‘tilak’, ’tilakam’ ‘tika’ or ‘pottu’. But kumkum and sindoor are not synonymous as unmarried women use kumkum but not sindoor. The ancient name for bindi is tilaka and teeka or tikka is its distorted form.
In ancient times, small decorative leaves were used (which were made by cutting them into different shapes) and then pasted upon the forehead. The decorative leaves (patra) were also known by various names –’Patralekha’, Patramanjari’, ‘Patrachhedya’ or ‘Patrabhanga’.
Authentic kumkum is of special significance and an essential item in all religious rituals, hence auspicious. The turmeric is dried and powdered with a lime/lemon to give the rich red colored kumkum. Every deity and every altar in Sanathana dharma has red kumkum. It is red in colour as red is a known colour of power.
Is the practice of bindi really ancient? A cursory look at the ancient paintings, murals from the antiquated Ajant? or Ellora caves, Rajasthani paintings or even sculptures from the ancient temples of India, shows that the forehead of the Indian women is always found decorated with ornaments and also bindi. Cave 16 at the Ajanta caves has a mural where a princess and her lady-attendant are with a tray both wearing the bindi. Female figurines excavated at Baluchistan seem to imply application of sindoor to the partition of women’s hair in Harappa culture.

Personal decoration practices also go back to the times of Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Vedic period and till today they haven’t changed because they still looks “cool”. In the Mahabharata, the Pandava queen Draupadi wiped her ‘kumkum’ off the forehead in anguish at Hastinapur.
The practice of using ‘kumkum’ on foreheads is also mentioned in Vedic religious texts, many ancient texts (Puranas), the Lalitha Sahasranama and Adi Shankara’s Soundarya Lahiri. In the famous eight verses (astakam) on the symbol of Lord Shiva called the ‘Lingashtakam’ the composer says “Kumkuma chandana lepitha lingam..” meaning “I bow before that symbol (lingam), which represents the eternal Lord Shiva, adorned by sandal paste and kumkum”. Tilaka has been mentioned in Sanskrit plays of Mahakavi Kalidasa and other works like Panchatantra. Sant Tulsidas mentions it in his Ramcharitmanas at the time of the marriage between Lord Ram and Sit?.

Bindi is a simple mark made with the paste of coloured sandalwood, sindoor or turmeric worn on the forehead of married Hindu women. The bindi is most commonly a red dot made with vermilion.

Reasons

It symbolizes female energy and is believed to protect women and their husbands. Bindis are traditionally. In addition, the bindi is a way of accentuating the third eye, the area between the eyebrows where attention is focused during meditation.

According to the science of yoga there are seven energy centers in the body.

  1. The lowest one above the anus is called Mooladhar Chakra. It is the center of brutal strength and sex.

  2. Above it below the navel is the Swadishthan chakra its the center of learning

  3. Just above the navel is the manipur chakra its the seat of wisdom and emotion

  4. The heart center is called Anahat chakra its the seat of love and compassion.

  5. In the throat is the Vishudha chakra its the center of communication.

  6. Behind the eyebrows in the forehead is the Agya chakra and its the center of power over the universe.

  7. Above the crown head is the Sahastradhara chakra or the thousand petals lotus which denotes self realisation.

  8. The kundalini or the energy lies below the mooladhar chakra in the form of coiled serpent when we practice yogic life it starts rising and as it croses the seven energy centers it gives power and virtues, when it reaches the last center above the crown head the person becomes self realised and is established in self.

The bindi we put on the agya chakra it draws vibrations of power from the universe and gives virtue and power to the woman to run her household with patience, love, understanding, forgiveness. :-)

Music / Words / Thoughts /Ideas Affects your Body , Mind and Surrounding !!!

Did you know!
That the Music we here thoughts we get and the words we say affects our Body , mind and surrounding!!!

Its like every Music , emotion , thought , words brings changes in water crystals , and we all are very aware of that our body is 70% of water!!!

Here's a research by  "Masaru Emoto"  (Japanese researcher) on his beautiful water Crystals!!!
How does this factors like music, thoughts, ... affects our body !
Masaru Emoto
Masaru Emoto was born in Yokohama in July 1943. He is a graduate of the Yokohama Municipal University's department of humanities and sciences with a focus on International Relations. In 1986 he established the IHM Corporation in Tokyo. In October of 1992 he received certification from the Open International University as a Doctor of Alternative Medicine. Subsequently he was introduced to the concept of micro cluster water in the US and Magnetic Resonance Analysis technology. The quest thus began to discover the mystery of water.
He undertook extensive research of water around the planet not so much as a scientific researcher but more from the perspective of an original thinker. At length he realized that it was in the frozen crystal form that water showed us its true nature.

Polluted water

The few photos are of water exposed to different types of music. Distilled water would be placed in a bottle between two speakers and specific music would be played for one hour. The water was then frozen and photos taken.

Bach's air for the G-string
Kawachi folk dance
Music for Healing

Heavy Metal Music!

Mr Emoto decided to see how thoughts and words affected the formation of untreated distilled water crystals.
This was done by typing words onto paper, then taping the paper onto glass bottles overnight.

"Love and Appreciation"
"THANK YOU"

"You make me sick, I will kill you"

Note that the negative words 'You make me sick, I will kill you' resembles an image of polluted water.
Now we see the affect of thoughts and intent on the water.
Below left is an image of very polluted and toxic water from the Fujiwara Dam. Below right is the same water after a Buddhist monk (Reverend Kato Hoki, chief priest of Jyuhouin Temple) offered a prayer over it for one hour. Prayer, that’s sound coupled with intention, seems to have an extraordinary ability to restore the water back to its natural, harmonious, geometric symmetry.

With regard to the molecular structure of water, our intent (thoughts), words, ideas and music have a profound healing or destructive effect on the water.

Since the human is 70% water — Ultimately it means that what we think creates our reality, not just emotionally but physically.

Since the planet is also 70% water these experiments have profound implications for the environment also — Could this mean that we could ‘think’ a polluted stream clean again?

Since asking the question I've learned that these experiments are indeed being done in Japan through Mr Emoto's work. Three hundred people, usually led by someone proficient in focus and meditation (a buddhist monk for example) will gather around a polluted stream and focus healing and wellbeing onto the water for approximately one hour. Mr Emoto has reportedly documented these on film. According to eyewitnesses the water would become visibly clearer approximately 15 minutes after the meditation.

"If this is indeed the case ... the possibilities are endless." :D

"OM"

What is "OM" ? o.O

We have always heard from our elders about OM , to chant OM

but do we really know what is OM?

is it GOD? is it anything related to religion ? ...... :/

Than what exactly OM is???

Well here's a short video about what is OM ! Beautifully explained by "KHURSHED BATLIWALA"( A senior ART OF LIVING faculty ) :D

I am sure you would have never knew soo much about OM and its effects ! you'll be amazed !!! do watch this video!!! :D

LAMBORGHINI VENENO ROADSTER

Here's something for Car lovers !!!

Well there's no doubt that everyone loves this car and dream of!!! Its my favourite too ! m posting some of its specifications ! do go through !!! :D

Also did you knew that the creator of Lamborghini originally owned a tractor company, Lamborghini Trattori , which produced tractors from surplus military hardware. o.O

Having always been interested in car engines, during World War II, Ferruccio Lamborghini served with the Air Force mechanics corps and became known as a wizard at mechanical improvisation and fixing engines.
After the war, Ferruccio setup a small car and motorcycle repair shop in northern Italy. His first great business idea was to buy surplus military machines and convert them into tractors, which were in a great demand in the agricultural area where he lived at that time. In the beginning, from derelict military vehicles, Lamborghini was building on average one tractor a month. This business very soon became extremely successful allowing Lamborghini, in 1960, to expand his business to manufacturing oil-burning heaters and air conditioning units for buildings.

Many scientific advances were made in India centuries ago !!! Also the value of " PI "

MANY of the advances in sciences that we consider today to have been made in Europe were in fact made in India centuries ago. The ancient Hindus laid the foundation of mathematical, scientific, spiritual, medical, ethical, and psychological knowledge. They conceived and developed the sciences of logic and grammar and made great advances in fields so divergent as astronomy, aeronautics and architecture, music, medicine, and mathematics, mythology and martial arts, philosophy and physics, religion and rational logic. In the words of Einstein” We owe a lot to Hindus, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made.” India invented the zero and shared it with the world. Without zero there would be no binary system and no computers; counting would be clumsy and cumbersome.
Ancient Hindus contributed in branches of mathematics like algebra, trigonometry, geometry, quadratic and higher degree equations and calculus. The famous Pythagoras Theorem is explained several centuries before in the shulva sutras of the Vedas. It is believed that the much travelled Pythagoras was a student at the Takshashila University in undivided India and he carried with him knowledge of mathematics, medicine and transmigration of the soul to the western world. Australian Indologist A.L Basham in his book,” The wonder that was India” rightly states” the world owes most to India in the realm of mathematics, which was developed to a stage more advanced than that reached by any other nation of antiquity. The success of Indian mathematics was mainly due to the fact that Indians had a clear conception of the abstract number (Algebra) as distinct from the numerical quantity of objects or spatial extension.”
In the 5th Century Aryabhatt discovered many laws of physics which we today attribute to Sir Isaac Newton (1642 -1727). He knew the value of pi. He knew that the earth revolves around the sun, the earth is spherical, that the earth rotates on its axis, that earth is suspended in space and that lunar and solar eclipses occur by interplay of the sun, moon and earth. He also knew the laws of gravity, circumference of the earth, distance between the planets and the sun, revolutionary movement of the earth around the sun and so on.
The ancient Hindus’ contributions in sciences are infinite, but given my limitations of space, I wish to conclude by stating that; Hinduism and Vedic thoughts are criticised by people who only imperfectly understood them.

Also as told previously about value of pi originated from India - it was from a sanskrit shloka in which each letter has assigned some value .

Katapayadi Sankhya

गोपीभाग्यमधुव्रात-शृङ्गिशोदधिसन्धिग ।
खलजीवितखाताव गलहालारसंधर ॥

Gopibhagya madhuvrata srngisodadhisandhiga|
Khalajivitakhatava galahalarasandhara||

Oh Krishna, the fortune of the Gopis, the detoryer of the demon Madhu,
protector of cattle, the one who ventured the ocean-depths, destroyer of evildoers,
one with plough on the shoulder and the bearer of nectar, may (you) protect (us)!

Shloka demonstrates one of the strongest and most intelligent examples of extreme knowledge and wisdom of our ancient men.

Grahacāraṇibandhana based in the year 683 CE and Laghubhāskariyavivarana based in the year 869 CE speak of a certain numerical notation which goes by the name of Katapayadi Sankhya.
Under this system, a number is ascribed to each and every alphabet of the script, a concept highly similar to the ASCII system in computers. The image below would better explain the relation between the alphabets and the numbers

So, based on the above method, if the letters in the shloka are replaced by the corresponding numbers, i.e. 'go' by 3, 'pi' by 1,  'bha' by 4, 'ya by 1' and so on, the following result is obtained:
31415926535897932384626433832792
The number, as obvious, is the decimal representation of pi upto 32 decimal places.
Who could have thought encrypting a mathematical concept in a devotional Shloka dedicated to Krishna?

So, what do they gain out of it by performing such extraordinary feat? The answer is two-fold.
Firstly, they used methodologies like this to check the correct usage and pronunciation of the verses, where every variation from the correct mantra or shloka would result in an incorrect rendition of the pi number(or any other system which they would have encoded)
Secondly, they used concepts like above to perform encryption and decryption so that the message would reach the intended receiver and no one would be able to catch the real meaning of the message.

Isn't it Wonderful ?

#ANCIENT INDIA !!!

Truth behind the famous Pythagoras Theorem !!! o.O

Did you know !
The famous Pythagoras theorem which you have been using from your childhood is exactly derived from INDIA?

Well ! Pythagoras was a student of Takshila University ( most ancient and among top universities in the world located in INDIA )

The famous Pythagoras theorem is explained several centuries before in the shulva sutras of the Vedas. It is
Takshashila university
believed that the much travelled Pythagoras was a student at the Takshashila University in undivided India and he carried with him the knowledge of mathematics to the west .

So basically Indian teachers (saints) taught pythagoras , THE famous PYTHAGORAS THEOREM!!!

Spirituality !!!

Spirituality !!!

What is spirituality ? o.O
What is meditation ? o.O
Can youth meditate ? o.O
.
.
.
Many such questions would have hitted your mind !!!
Now..,
Spirit is Joy. Spirit is Love. Spirit is Enthusiasm. All that which uplifts the spirit is called spirituality. To incorporate spirituality in your life the first step is not to think that spirituality is not for daily life. It is not different from daily life. So you don't have to make an effort and try to incorporate it in your life. Your life can never be away from spirituality, it is only a matter of awareness. - Sri Sri Ravishankar

There are many different definitions & opinions of Spirituality!!! but whatever the explaination is , Spirituality is Joyfulness and your happiness !!!
I myself Meditate and m proud of it !!! It makes me happy and I think its cool!!! its not at all boring ....

M glad that i did a Yes+ workshop initiated by "ART OF LIVING" ! So proud to be a part of such a big organisation!!!
